At Zoomo, our people are the secret sauce to our success. Zoomers are a bunch of passionate, motivated and purpose-driven individuals all working towards the same mission of transitioning every urban delivery mile in light electric vehicles.
Our #HumansofZoomo blog series aims to shine a light on Zoomers around the business, and the different skills and roles that make Zoomo what it is today.
In today’s #HumansofZoomo blog we catch up with Rob…
Hello! I’m Rob and I lead our growth strategy for our consumer business and our customer teams globally.
I joined Zoomo for one purpose: to electrify last mile delivery and decarbonise transportation. I know Zoomo is a fantastic climate solution that I can scale given my past experiences.
Once I joined, the company’s collective focus on delighting couriers by building practical tools on an industry-leading platform to ease the labour-intensive work of delivery only further won me over. We are truly doing something no one else is.
I lead a global team who collaborates closely with our leaders on the ground. I thoroughly enjoy getting to deeply understand our customers' needs and how our market is evolving, so it's important we stay in the loop. To do this, I’ve built checkpoints with our General Managers across all time zones of the world where we operate. Juggling the time zones can be difficult, but I’ve learned quickly how to manage my day and ensure I still spend quality time with my family.
Sometimes, there’s just no replacement for looking at and examining how our e-bikes are working. So in the week I block out days to go into our warehouse with our mechanics, visit our stores serving customers, host whiteboard sessions in the office, as well as visiting our clients’ site. On other days it's deep work at home.
A day at Zoomo certainly keeps you on your toes, but working across a variety of dimensions is so important to allow us to build what our customers and market needs.
One project I’m super proud of is preparing our customers for the harsh winters in the northern hemisphere. (I'll confess, I've only been in the snow once!).
This will be the first winter for our Toronto team. With close collaboration between our Store Managers, Supply Chain teams, and Finance teams, in April we kicked off a cross-functional global project to start planning for our customer’s needs in October.
This is just one example of thinking ‘far’ ahead and knowing deeply what our customers need based on the city we’re serving. From the frost of Toronto to the rain of London, we’re helping ensure our customers are as safe and comfortable on the road as possible.
My one tip is to embrace it all, you’ll learn something new every day.
Working at Zoomo, you get to work with experts deep within their field, and there are a lot of fields within our company: Financing for our Leasing, Data Science for our IoT, Servicing for our vehicles, Hardware including electrical, mechanical and computers, Supply Chain to forecast demand and land parts in a city, Customer and Operations that continue to innovate and build the market.
It’s a privilege to work with so many leading experts that are creating this industry. I truly look forward to illuminating conversations everyday.
Oh and don’t forget, you have a lot to bring to the table. Going home after my first day, I felt a huge pang of imposter syndrome. I had gone from a background with purely Software, to a company that had to embrace 5X more dimensions of complexity. After a few conversations with friends and colleagues - I realised that finding your feet can feel hard, but you’re on the team for a reason - so do what you do best and build the future you want to see!
We currently have a bunch of open roles across all markets. If you are interested in becoming a Human of Zoomo yourself, and are also keen to help us accelerate cities to carbon neutral, head to our Careers at Zoomo page.
