How does a Zoomo e-bike subscription in Toronto compare to the rest?

We know there’s a lot of competition out there in Toronto so we thought we’d do the work for you, and pull together all the information you need to choose your e-bike subscription.

Zoomo e-bike vs Movin & zygg.

What is the best e-bike subscription in Toronto?

With some new, and some old, players growing the electric bike market in Toronto, we wanted to set the record straight for the couriers out there. No marketing ploys here, just straight bike facts designed to help you understand the offerings. It’s no surprise that Zoomo still provides the most value to a rider, at the most affordable price.

E-bikes that are designed for delivery need to be durable, long-lasting and affordable - not always the easiest balance to strike when you’re also striving for peak performance. However, with years of operation in over 30+ cities around the world, Zoomo has tested many iterations of this pricing & performance balance to give our couriers the best experience possible. Let’s look at some key e-bike features for a delivery rider and how we compare with Movin’ Electric Bikes in Toronto.

Comparison of Zoomo vs our competitors in Toronto.

Let’s look at some key e-bike features for a delivery rider and how we compare with Movin’ Electric Bikes in Toronto.

Price

Zoomo provides multiple plan options to cater to what kind of courier you are, and how long you are looking to deliver. These options are our  weekly Flex plan, monthly Boost plan, and the Ride-to-Own plan; all of which serve a specific type of courier to help them reach their goals. In this comparison we’ll look strictly at our Boost plan:

- Zoomo:  Starting at $189/mth (for three months) with a $0 downpayment. Theft protection is available for $30/mth.

- Movin: Starting at $250/mth with a $0 downpayment. Theft protection does not exist

Therefore even if you choose to pay for theft protection, which is highly recommended, Zoomo comes in cheaper than Movin even with the added value of knowing your bike can be tracked, and retrieved by our field operations team if it is stolen. We understand the importance of your bike so we do all we can to keep it safely in your hands.

Speed

Getting around town in the safest, fastest way possible is paramount for delivery riders. At Zoomo we’ve designed our bikes especially for delivery so that they meet the highest legal speeds in each city - meaning you’re getting the most out of your ebike efficiency.

- Zoomo: Up to 25mph or 40kph

- Movin: Up to 20mph or 32kph

Zoomo ebikes can reach speeds up to 25% higher than Movin’ with only a limited impact to the battery life as you’ll see below. Improving the efficiency of our LEVs (light electric vehicles) is something we’re constantly optimizing in order to help couriers stay on the roads as long as they can.

Battery life

Zoomo bikes have a 17.5Ah capacity battery or 630Wh capacity, which is incredibly impressive for a frame integrated battery. We use Tier 1 Samsung cells, renowned for their ability to handle high temperatures through their high density. This is key in preventing fires, which often occur due to cells reaching a high temperature and becoming deformed or spontaneously combusting. Tier 1 cells are not only safer, but provide more charging cycles which result in longer battery lifetimes (read more here). Given the sleek Zoomo design, the 17.5Ah battery is currently the largest we can easily fit but that will likely change with future iterations. For now Movin’ uses an 18Ah battery which allows them to get a few more kilometers out on the road, at a significantly slower speed.

- Zoomo: 17.5Ah battery, up to 8 hours of life, around 80km. Second battery rental $100/mth.

- Movin: 17.5Ah battery, up to 9 hours of life, around 90km. Second battery purchase $999.

The affordability, and availability, of our second battery means you can charge while you work and can always be on the road. Plus, we now offer battery swaps and charges at our stores so you can conveniently drop in and out without having to carry your spare battery around. The minor amount Zoomo might lack in range, we make up for in service and cost.

Servicing

Keeping your bike healthy is the most important thing you can do to maximize your earnings - that’s why maintenance on general wear and tear issues is included in all Zoomo plans.

- Zoomo: General wear and tear servicing is included, $0, at our stores. Additional costs depend on severity of damage and rider negligence.

- Movin: 10% discount for out of warranty servicing at a partner store.

This allows riders to have peace of mind knowing that Zoomo will be there to quickly change a flat, or fix a brake whenever they need it.

Conclusion

Although some bikes may claim to have more to offer than Zoomo, when it comes to the overall value and the entire package in consideration of service, price, and customer experience; Zoomo leads the way.

We look forward to seeing you in our store soon to rent one of our world-class electric bikes, intentionally designed for delivery riders.
