#1 Make yourself seen

With the extra power, other riders, pedestrians and cars may not expect you to zip along quite so quickly. Wear bright clothes and make sure your bike has a light and bell. All Zoomo e-bikes have front and rear lights which help to make you more visible to pedestrians and cars on the roads. If your bike doesn’t have lights or reflectors, it is vital to put them on as they drastically increase your level of safety.

#2 Brake earlier

If you're moving quicker on an e-bike it stands to reason it may takey ou a little longer to slow down. Be prepared to brake slightly earlier than expected especially when coming up to busy paths and roads. Another consideration is hydraulic disc brakes which are available on select Zoom oe-bikes. These have superior stopping power compared to mechanical brakes. We recommend you asking what kind of brakes are on your bike and upgrading to hydraulic disc brakes if required. We opted to use hydraulic disc brakes on ourZero e-bike as safety is key to us.

#3 Be mindful when getting on and off your bike

Batteries can weigh a few kilos which adds some extra weight, depending on the models, compared to a push bike. Be mindful when getting in and off your e-bike and buy a frame that is comfortable to you. Some find a step-through bike easier than a step-over for this reason. At Zoomo we have a range of e-bikes that suit and cater to all the preferences and needs of our riders. Visit your local Zoomo store to have an expert help fit you to your bike.

#4 While not specific to an e-bike, here are some extra tips to keep you safe while riding:

  • Ride with the flow of traffic, not against it
  • Learn the hand signals so you can safely indicate which way you’re turning
  • Wear reflective clothes at night
  • Always wear a helmet
  • Know the road rules
